Port of Shantou

The Port of Shantou is situated along the coast of south-ern Guangdong,at the midway of the"Golden Coast"betweenFuzhou and Guangzhou.It takes a very important strategicposition in South China as the rivers of Hanjiang,Rongjiangand Lianjiang all empty into the sea near the port. At present,the Shantou Port Authority owns 17 berthsfor handling coal,breakbulk cargo and moving passengers,in-cluding a coal berth of 35,000dwt class,a multi—purposeberth of 20,000dwt class,a break—bulk berth of 15,000dwtclass,It has a total storage area of 195,000m;amd 303 unitsof port handling equipment and 58 harbour work boats.Thecomprehensive throughput capacity in 1996 will reach 8.6million tons and passenger throughput 400,000.
