A NEW APPROACH OF TREATING THE STOKES FLOW OF NONSLENDER PROLATE ARBITRARY AXISYMMETRICAL BODY

A new method of the line distribution of discrete singularities and continuous singularitiesis proposed to solve the Stokes flow that passes the arbitrary nonslender prolate axisymmetri-cal body. The Sampson spherical infinite-series are chosen as the fundamental singularities.In this paper the convergence and the accuracy of both methods are tested by the unboundedStokes flow of the prolate spheroid. The comparison with the exact solutions demonstratesthat both methods have good convergence properties and computational results with highaccuracy not only for drag factor but also for pressure distribution. Besides, the line distri-bution method of the continuous singularities is better than the discrete one in the sense of con-vergence. Finally both methods are applied to calculating the drag factor and the pressuredistribution for the Cassini oval as an example of the nonslender prolate arbitrary body. Theresults obtained by those two methods are convergent and consistent, which shows they arereliable.
