Modernism vs. Realism

The realistic novel is a kind of literature that could reflect the real life of the common people and express and praise the bourgeois ideas,values,and their heroic deeds in the development of the country.Modernism amounts to more than a chronological description.Modernism takes the irrational philosophy and the idea of psychoanalysis as its theoretical base.Modernism is in general a reaction against Realism.Modernism is private,but Realism is public;Modernism is subjective,while Realism is objective;Modernism is spiritual,and Realism is physical;Modernism is psychic,and Realism is chronological.I’d like to illustrate these differences by comparing Charles Dickens with James Joyce in the passage.
