INTRODUCTIONThe connection between the NorthAtlantic Oscillation(NAO)and hydrolog-ical conditions has been a subject ofinterest since the influence of NAO onclimate phenomena was substantiated.NAO is one of the major regional systemcontrolling atmospheric circulation thatinfluences climate in Europe,northernAfrica,and Greenland,as well as in NorthAmerica and much of northern Asia(1-7).The mechanism of the NAO has beenpreviously explained and described inmany detailed studies devoted to bothgeneral and particular regions and tochosen meteorological elements(8,9).Ofparticular importance has been the re-search and studies on the influence ofNAO on precipitation and air temperature(10-18).Precipitation and air temperatureare the two most important meteorologicalfactors controlling runoff and evapotrans-
