Introduction. Sign Languages: Centextualization and Contributions of the Semiological Approach

At SFL, we are developing the Sign Language (SL) approach initiated by Cuxac and now known as the Semiological Approach. This approach is not necessarily consensual in France or internationally, and is still partly misunderstood. The aim of this introduction is to contextualize it within the field of SL linguistics, and the aim of this issue is to highlight its specific contributions. We outline the major epistemological cleavages that currently structure the field and, within this framework, we present the main lines of our approach. Finally, we present the various contributions.
