摘要
This work emphasized on the chemical synthesis of CeO2 nanoparticles, which are used as an important material for removing chromium(VI) and mixed dyes. The current study was experimented using chemically synthesized CeO2 nanoparticles in a lab-scale reactor set-up. The yielded nanoparticles were illustrated by UV-DRS, which revealed a band-gap energy of 2.45 eV. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) showed the face-centred cubic structured nanoparticles with a standard crystallite size of 19.06 nm. SEM analysis revealed an average particle size of 26.03 nm. The EDAX studies featured the presence of available Cerium in the nanoparticle. The highest percentage of photocatalytic removal using chemically synthesized CeO2 as a catalyst was 65.7 f 0.0005 % for mixed dyes and 71.08 f 0.0005 % for Cr(VI). The degradation of mixed dyes (150 mg/L) and removal of Cr(VI) (40 mg/L) using chemically synthesized nanoparticles at 120 min was 56.45 f 0.0005 % and 82.91 f 0.0005 % respectively. Studies were conducted to analyze the removal of COD (63.61 %), TDS (74.79 %), Phosphates (53.91 %), and Chlorides (21.23 %). Various analytical methods such as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and FT-IR Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) examination were applied to evaluate the presence of degraded products.
