摘要
Peer Recovery Specialists are trained peers in recovery who connect individuals at risk of drug overdose to services. We present a case study of a community-based peer system in one county using semi-structured narrative interviews to describe the experiences of peers working across treatment, criminal justice and hospital sectors. Eight peers participated in 60-90-minute interviews. While peers have cultivated collaborative partnerships, substance use biases and adherence to abstinence models hinder these efforts. Greater cross-sector training elevating the role of peers and promoting a participant-centered approach could improve outcomes for those navigating the complexity of substance use, overdose risks and recovery.
