Fabricating a martensitic steel layer through double-wire arc directed energy deposition for in-situ cladding

摘要
Drawing inspiration from the welding of dissimilar steels, this study introduces an innovative approach to preparing martensitic steel through heterogeneous double-wire arc directed energy deposition. Two gas metal arc torches served as heat sources, with employing ER316L stainless steel wire and ER70-G low alloy steel wire at respective feed speeds of 6 m/min and 4 m/min as feedstock. A 6-pass surfacing layer component is fabricated. The evaluation of the microstructure was done using OM, SEM, EDS, and EBSD, revealing a substantial presence of lath martensite (97%) complemented by austenite (3%). Further mechanical properties and corrosion resistance were analysed, showing desirable hardness (408 +/- 8 HV), strength (1233 +/- 32 MPa), ductility (11.2 +/- 1.3%), and corrosion resistance (2.0 mu A/cm2).
