Nickel ferrite as an efficient electrocatalyst for alcohol oxidation reactions

摘要
Nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) electrocatalyst was synthesized via a simple, rapid hydrothermal method. The electrocatalyst's composition and structure were analyzed using various techniques. The electrocatalytic activity of NiFe2O4 toward the oxidation of alcohols such as methanol, ethanol, propanol, and isopropanol in an alkaline medium was studied using cyclic voltammetry, linear scan voltammetry, and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) exhibited a lower overpotential than the other alcohol oxidation reactions, suggesting that NiFe2O4 is an excellent catalyst for MOR.
