In order to solve the problems of largely used water quantity and water resource scarcity in refinery, using activated carbon to treat further refinery biochemical wastewater so as to reuse it as circulating cooling water was studied. The excellent adsorption capability of activated carbon and its external microbe film have good effect of eliminating pollutant in the wastewater. Using activated carbon adsorption as main process and aided by sand - filtering to treat oil refinery biochemically treatmented wastewater was studied, and the feasibility to reuse treated water as circulating cooling water was explored. Experiment results indicated that activated carbon assisted with sand filter has better ability to remove COD, turbidity, color, volatile phenol, total P amount in effluent, and has certain regulating effect on pH, electric conductivity it can make the main quality indexes of treated wastewater reach the requirements for circulating cooling supplement water. At the same time, when adding erosion inhibitor in water, the erosion rate of effluent can be lowered down to meet the standard of reuse. When the activated carbon loses its function, it can be recovered by using ozone. The method has many merits such as process simple, high efficiency and so on. This research suggests that using activated carbon in treating biochemically treatmented wastewater from oil refinery to get reusable circulating cooling water is feasible.
