摘要
When plain austenitic stainless steels containing typically 19% Cr and 9% Ni are welded, the heat affected zone (HAZ) may become susceptible to preferential intergranular corrosion in service, which is well known as 'Weld decay'. It has been recognized that the corrosion resistance in HAZ of these steels can be restored by the heat-treatment in the temperature range of 1050-1100 degree C after welding, followed by sufficiently rapid quenching to prevent sensitization during cooling. In the present report, laser heating was applied for the surface heat-treatment of the weldment of Type 304 stainless steel in order to reduce the susceptibility of the sensitized HAZ of this steel to intergranular corrosion.
