Welded joints in large forgings of 1201 alloy produced by automatic single-pass argon arc welding are characterized by the properties typical of welded joints in rolled semi-finished products of the same alloy subjectd to the effect of working stresses in the longitudinal and transverse direction of the forging. The reduced performance parameters of the vertical welded joints in large forgings are caused by brittle fracture along the thick interlayers of the eutectic and intermetallic compounds formed at the grain boundaries (parallel to the joint) in the weld zone during their melting in the course of welding. These welded joints should not be used in welded structures.
