A measuring technique for the electric field distribution of high order modes in a resonant cavity was presented in this paper. A perturbing bead-like cage made of metallic wires were developed for S-band field measurements, which can be used to detect a small electric field component in the presence of other strong electric or magnetic field components. In order to avoid orientation error for the cage with very high directivity, two parallel threads were employed to support the perturbing cage. A simple mechanical setup was described. The cage can be driven into the cavity on-axis or off-axis in any azimuth for the longitudinal and transverse electric field measurements.
