DAMPING OF LOW-FREQUENCY ELASTIC VIBRATIONS IN LiNbO3.

An investigation was made of the internal friction Q** minus **1 of single-domain and polydomain LiNbO//3 crystals at frequencies of the order of a few hertz. It was established that the maximum of Q** minus **1 in the vicinity of 300 degree K was a superposition of two peaks, one of which was due to a domain mechanism and the other due to a phase transition. The maxima of Q** minus **1 in the vicinity of -30 and 300 degree C were analyzed using a model of the interaction between domain walls and two types of charged point defect characterized by different mobilities.
