Several proposed test procedures for the measurement of partial load efficiency of boilers are examined. The most interesting standardization proposals have been selected for a comparative examination. A real interest for the measurement of the efficiency of boilers at reduced loading appears from this investigation. A draft standard is proposed for a method of evaluation of partial load efficiency for burner-boilers systems in Italy: for the present, a simple method in which only stack losses (constant percentage) and wall losses (constant power) are accounted for; for the future, a direct measurement method carried on with experimental plant equipped with a thermal capacity and with two different hydraulic loops: a three-way valve loop for testing boilers to be used out of heated rooms; a loop without a three-way valve for testing boilers to be used in heated rooms.
