Reduced sulfur compounds found in emission gases from kraft recovery furnace stacks can be monitored and quantified using coulometric titrimetry or gas chromatography. The coulometric method is based on a bromine titration, and individual calibration is needed for each sulfur compound. Gas chromatography using a flame photometric detector is fast becoming the method of choice for ppb levels of reduced sulfur compounds.
