The content of extractives in Pinus radiata D. Don tress treated for oleoresin extraction was studied as compared to untreated trees. Wood core samples were taken from 196 trees in 11 different plots of Radiata pine in region VIII of Chile. Each wood sample was identified and stored in sealed bags to prevent volatization and oxidation of the extractive components. The extractives content of each sample was determined using the Standard Test Method for Ethanol Toluene Stability of Wood (ASTM D 1107 96). Results provide a measure of the total soluble substances, including waxes, fats, resins and oils.
