The Series 627 railcar described is a self-contained unit with two driving cabs, luggage room, toilet and large-capacity passenger compartment for 64 seated passengers. The entire power plant, consisting of a 287 kW diesel engine with dynastarter and hydraulic transmission with two torque converters, is of underfloor type for optimum utilization of the floor space. The car body is of extremely lightweight construction and built up from corrugated standard light-gage sheet steel with special corrosion protection. As a special feature, this railcar is fitted with equipment permitting one-man operation by passenger flow routing.
