HAZARDOUS SPILL CONTAINMENT AND COLLECTION.

Spills of toxic and hazardous materials pose a threat to both human health and the environment. In recent years an increasing amount of attention has been devoted to both their containment and their collection. The article presents a summary of some of the chemical and physical principles underlying the various available technologies, the techniques which are available commercially from a number of vendors for the control of, particularly liquid spills, and an indication of the performance of the various types of products. Subjects covered include sorption, solidification, terrestrial spills, spills on water, neutralizers, vacuum clean-up, and others.
