Since 1984 all arc steel melting furnaces (ASF) of 100 tonnes and greater capacity produced by enterprises of the Ministry of the Electrical Equipment Industry have been delivered equipped with microprocessor automatic control systems (ACS). The block diagram is shown of an ACS using a type UVK-2 control computer complex for a type DSP-100I6 ASF. The software of the ACS with UVK-2 is modular in structure. The algorithm and technical approaches used in the automatic control systems for large electrothermal equipment may be employed to automate electric-arc furnaces already in operation in accordance with plans for reconstruction and technical reequipping of shops.
