Bowater Inc has acquired Alliance Forest Products Inc including a strategically located mill in Alabama. The two modern, low cost supercalendered and specialty paper mills in Quebec are also included in the acquisition. The transaction was valued at US$742 million including assumed debt based on Bowater's closing price of US$41.50 per share on September 21, 2001.
