The introduction of the recuperative immersion tube to industry was carried out with a series of production field trials involving a licensee. This enables both British Gas and the licensee to determine the most effective way of applying the equipment in novel ways and to identify any areas which may require further development. Zinc melting was the first application to be tried as a production unit. The application of ceramic immersion tubes to galvanising was carried out in the UK on a continuous wire plant. Other studies were performed on aluminum melting and holding. The cause of premature failure of some tubes is identified.
