Environmental assessment - a basic guide

This Paper gives an introduction to the concept of environmental assessment for development projects as required under the European Communities' environmental assessment directive of June 1985. The first part of the Paper outlines the background, requirements and general principles of environmental assessment. The second part provides a basic guide for the execution of an environmental assessment study and for the preparation of the resulting environmental impact statement.
