New generator sample differential protection based on B-spline wavelets

A new generator differential protection scheme based on sampled values is proposed. Research results show that the generator with internal faults can induce lots of the higher frequency current components. According to that, by decomposition and reconstruction of the transient currents with the B-spline wavelets, the higher frequency bands fault current components are obtained, which can be used to detect the generator internal faults. Simulation results show that the new scheme has higher sensitivity and reliability than the traditional differential protection. At the same time, the scheme can greatly reduce the influence of the current transformer saturation.
