RELATION BETWEEN THE MAGNETOELASTIC EFFECT AND THE STRESSES AND STRAIN IN THE PLAIN-STRESSED STATE OF FERROMAGNETIC MATERIALS.

A theoretical and experimental justification is presented for the use of the generalized Hooke's law when measuring ferromagnetic materials in the plane-stressed state by the magnetoelastic method after introducing an additional coefficient alpha characterizing the ratio of the changes taking place in the transverse and longitudinal magnetoelastic effects of the steels under test DELTA mu //2/ DELTA mu //1. It is shown that separate measurements of the principal stresses sigma //1 and sigma //2 may be made by the magnetoelastic method for the plane-stressed state (with due allowance for the coefficient alpha ) when the ratio of the principal stresses sigma //2/ sigma //1 less than equivalent to 1.
