Can soils be used for sewage sludge disposal?

Experiments in the greenhouse and in the field have been completed and analyses of heavy metals are in progress. Experiments were conducted at two locations - Meanwhile Farm near Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, on a Pope silt loam soil and West Virginia University Experiment Station near Point Pleasant, West Virginia, on a Wheeling sandy loam soil. Chemical analysis of the sludges used are reported on an oven-dry basis. Soil samples were taken at several depths from each plot to determine extent of movement of various elements in the soil.
