Friction losses in layflat manifold hose and drip-tape fittings

A laboratory investigation was conducted to study the hydraulic characteristics of layflat manifold hose and to determine the friction loss factors for drip-tape fittings commonly used in microirrigation. Results indicate values for the Hazen-Williams roughness coefficient, C, of 135 and 140 for 76 mm (3 in.) and 102 mm (4 in.) diameter layflat plastic hoses, respectively. The head losses for a variety of drip-tape fittings are presented in terms of tape length producing an equivalent friction loss.
