A procedure based on the method of finite elements is presented for determining the settlement under load of vertical driven piles, according to the Theory of Elasticity and Elasto-plasticity. The soil compaction due to pile driving is taken into consideration. A better approximation is given for simulating the mechanism of pile behavior under load, by inserting a plastic flow stratum adjacent to the pile. Practical applicability of both methods is confirmed by load-test results on a large-scale driven reinforced concrete pile.
