摘要
Rock mass characterization systems are designed to improve the assessment of anticipated excavation and support conditions for underground construction. Just recently, these systems have also been applied to bored tunnels. These system however, were not able to produce reliable results but their use indicated that TBMs and their back-up systems are suitable for the ground conditions being looked at. As a result stability problems developed. In this paper, several case histories are considered to show when is it appropriate to use rating systems.
