The most common of this group of alloys, which nominally contain near equiatomic quantities of nickel and titanium, is 55-Nitinol. Applications include fasteners, self-erectable structures such as antennas and struts, aerospace shutters and sun followers, thermally-actuated switches, sprinkler systems and fire alarms.
