Wick welding of braided copper cable to flat aluminum conductor (strip or strap) described here has been used in the liquid type transformer coil lead applications. Since wick welding results in an irregular joint line, the ratio of joint area to conductor size is high. The joint performance therefore, exceeds the performance of a simple overlap joint. The tensile tests and impact tests confirm this.
