Physical properties of ion-exchanged and melt-processed glasses differ

摘要
The discrepancy between the surface compression measured and that calculated using molar volume data was discussed. Investigation about the physical properties responsible for the generation of stress in ion-exchanged glasses was presented. A progressive stress measurement technique was used to show that the surface layers had higher thermal expansion coefficient relative to that of parent. A unified model was developed to account for the low magnitudes of observed compression.
