In this work the authors investigated ionization in a CO + air flame by means of probe and mass-spectrometric methods. Flames, stabilized on a flat-flame burner at low pressure and in a circular burner 8 mm in diameter at atmospheric pressure, were studied. A region with an extended priming zone was organized on the flat-flame burner. The chemiluminescent zone of this region had the shape of a prolate bell and was produced by forcing a hot mixture at a high velocity out through a small tube, positioned axially with respect to the burner. The investigations were performed precisely in this region.
