摘要
A series of 68 duplicate aerosol samples was collected in the fall of 1986 in Ghent, Belgium, by means of two cyclone/filter combinations, set up on parallel. The filters, containing the less than 5 mu m particle size fraction, were analyzed for 23 elements by particle induced X-ray emission analysis. The data set, consisting of concentrations for 15 elements in 64 sampling periods, was subjected to varimax rotated principal component analysis. The use of this multivariate technique, combined with some simple matrix algebra, allowed us to indicate the major sources of the atmospheric trace elements, to extract the relative source profiles, and to calculate the contribution of the various sources to the observed elemental concentrations.
