After getting off to a poor and disappointing start, microwave curing and preheating units are beginning to show promise. There are well designed and produced units now available in the U. S. with complete lines including extruders, hot air ovens and other finishing equipment, also supplied by the same companies. Proper compounding and well considered plans can lead to very satisfactory installations. Technological details of microwave vulcanization are discussed with emphasis on continuous vulcanization of rubber extrudates.
