ESSENTIAL ASPECTS OF THE CHANGE-OVER TO THE DIGITAL LOCAL NETWORK.

The fast progress in VLSI techniques for digital components has led to a drastic decrease in the cost of digital systems. Digital transmission and switching in the trunk and local networks offer a series of advantages. The most important aspects of the digitization of the local network such as digitization of audio signals, integration of the services, network structure, implementation of the BORSCHT functions and problems arising from the simultaneous use of analog and digital systems during the transition period are discussed.
