Maintenance requirements of refineries are constant and unpredictable. Nowhere else is this more evident than with the operation and maintenance of slide valves in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) units. This article will highlight maintenance problems most frequently encountered by repair and field service crews and report some of the alternative methods used to reduce - and in some cases eliminate - certain slide valve maintenance problems.
