An investigation was made at Dneprospetsstal' works of the change in the rolling force parameters, temperature, and plasticity of the metal during the deformation of 10Kh23N18, 10Kh17N13M2T, and 12Kh18N10T stainless steel ingots on the 950 mill. Methods of improving the rolled product quality and blooming mill productivity are suggested after analysis of the changes in deformation conditions and metal properties during rolling. Owing to the as-cast structure in the first passes and the drop in temperature in the subsequent passes, the minimum plasticity n//k during the rolling of 540 multiplied by 540 mm 2. 8 t ingots is detected as far as passes 15 and 16. reduction in these passes has to be decreased, and increased in the remaining passes. It is also advisable to have a short reheating of the ingot surface to 1300 degree C (30-50 Cdeg above the optimum) of 15-20 min.
