When Brazil's Copesul planned its Trifunfo olefins and aromatics complex in 1976, many technical decisions had to be made regarding the basic concept of the billion lb/year ethylene plant, the heart of the complex. A careful analysis of the development plans for the complex and the integrated downstream plants that would use the primary products showed evidence in favor of a twin compressor line for cracked gas and refrigeration. Operating experience has confirmed that the goals set for the twin compressor system have been met.
