Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is a performance property now required of many plastic parts by government regulation. How to accomplish the degree of electrical conductivity required is the problem: previously the author examined one possible solution - conductive finishes for plastic parts. In this paper, the author looks at the alternative-conductive additives incorporated within the part. This is a roundup of what's available in these additives, and their compounding characteristics, performance properties and individual costs.
