NEC has developed various transmission systems for digital terrestrial broadcasting. NEC recently developed the Versatile series digital TV transmitter with a new water cooling method for a digital terrestrial TV broadcasting. It can reduce the floor space, and offers easy installation with existing equipment. Moreover, the super-low distortion amplifier which uses feed forward technology was newly developed for low-power transmitter, and IMP (Inter-Modulation Products)<-50dB or more was achieved. This enables adoption of a common amplification system, which can cut the total cost. In addition, a compact-sized digital outside broadcasting link or Field Pickup Unit (FPU) employing the OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex) parameters optimized for mobile transmission was developed. This is the world's first such equipment put into practical use, and it has been proved that the system design can cut the number of staff, the number of relay points and the cost by as much as 80%. It thus represents a great revolution in broadcast relay technology.
