Description of the results of a study of the optimization of typical aircraft structural components using the previously described Automated Structural Optimization Program (ASOP). The structures examined were a fuselage structure for a proposed space shuttle orbiter and a wing structure for the same vehicle. Examples are given of practical finite element modeling of these structures.
