Corrosion and material problems in steam generation systems of the pulp and paper industry are presented through case histories. While some of the problems are common to any steam generation system, others are unique to pulp and paper industry cogeneration plants. Problems in deaerators, economizers, recovery boiler water-wall tubes, steam drums, superheater tubes, and steam supply lines are presented. The materials include various grades of carbon steels and stainless steels. Failure mechanism includes stress-corrosion cracking, corrosion fatigue, erosion, thermal fatigue and high temperature oxidation.
