Use of an Industrial Computer for Laboratory Tests.

The experimental study of flows leads to the computation of a great number of mean values (power spectral densities, correlation coefficients, etc. ). For these calculations a computer is well suited. The system described is installed at the Chatou center of Electricite de France. Three laboratories are communicating through terminals, of identical constitution, with an I. B. M. 1800 computer. One of these terminals is fully described. This terminal offers the following capabilities: conditioning and digital conversion of eight analog signals, fast acquisition and disk-storage of the data, control of the treatment and return of the results in an elaborated state (listings, curves). Some examples permit one to appreciate the flexibility and the facility of the use of the terminal: analysis of random signals, control of tests. An important paragraph is devoted to the computer program: acquisition program and harmonic analysis program which are particularly efficient.
