摘要
This volume presents results of studies designed to evaluate the SPS satellite photovoltaic design concept on the basis of new data, to show improvement in the design concept, and to resolve or reduce key areas of uncertainty in the reference concept. These evaluations are an integral part of the narrowing down process for point design definition. Included in this section are descriptions of the various candidate concepts considered and conclusions and recommendations for a preferred concept. An initial concept resulting from Exhibit A/B of the previous study (SD 78-AP-0023) is utilized as the starting point. This concept is evaluated for solid state dc-RF conversion (to replace klystrons) and configuration trades were performed to update concentration ratio and structural material selections. Based on these initial study results and NASA/DOE configuration decisions (October 1978) a new Rockwell reference concept was developed. Configuration options were evaluated and compared against this reference concept and against the NASA/DOE baseline. Recommendations were then made to define an updated and preferred concept.
