摘要：

Based on the arching effect of soil mass, a schematic diagram for the calculation of the balancing arch of sliding soil mass in the form of a wedge at the back of a retaining wall is presented in this paper, results calculated by the diagram agree rather well with the test results. On this basis, a method for calculating the active earth pressure on a retaining wall as a space problem is proposed. Comparison and analysis are also made between the proposed method and the calculation method which treats the active earth pressure as a plane problem.
