Contribution to Chemical Metallizing of Plastics - 2.

The second part of this paper deals with crystallization of copper on styrene acrylonitrile (SAN) and polybutadiene (PB) compared to ABS resin surfaces. Scanning electron microscopy showed that contrary to previous findings, copper metallizing of SAN takes place by the same process as on ABS. This was not the case with etched PB, on which thick copper crusts, rather than spheroidal copper nuclei, were formed. On smooth-surfaced, unnotched PB, the same results were obtained as on SAN. An explanation is suggested.
