A characteristic of the growth of coherent precipitates is the appearance of a maximum in resistivity which has been attributed to a certain particle size. Two contradictory models have been suggested by different investigators to explain this relation. To clarify the phenomenon, electric resistance measurements were performed on Fe//7//3Cr//2//7 alloys at temperatures between plus 50 and minus 180 C. Since the maximum is shifted to increasing aging times with decreasing temperatures, a connection between the particle size and the mean free path has to exist.
