The flow of an incompressible viscous fluid past a uniformly accelerated vertical plate is analyzed taking into account viscous dissipative heat. Approximate solutions are derived for the velocity and temperature field and shown graphically. Numerical values of the skin friction and heat transfer rate are tabulated. Reversed flow has been found to exist in the presence of a plate heated by free convection currents (G less than O), where G is the Grashof number. Cooling and heating of the plate by free convection results in a lower and higher heat transfer rate, respectively.
