In the past five years, Hendrix Wire and Cable has completed two major expansion programs thus increasing its capacity in medium voltage primary power cable extrusion by over 150 percent. To insure that the expansion programs satisfied the current and future technology trends within the utility industry, Hendrix utilized a variety of information gathering techniques to support the design of its programs. Some of the major information sources were telephone surveys, questionnaires and interviews. This paper highlights the major trends occurring in the utility market requirements for underground medium voltage (5KV-35KV) primary power cable.
